Insurance · Policy expiration and certificate deadlines
When the policy expires, when the certificate is due, and where it says so.
The policy period is on the declarations page. The date a certificate is due to your landlord or lender is in the lease or the loan, usually as “not later than thirty days before each policy expires”, and the proof-of-loss deadline is in the conditions, counted from a request. Prism reads whichever document you send, returns the dates it states or can compute, quotes the sentence for each, and says plainly when a document does not contain enough to date an obligation.
What comes back
Sample rows from a homeowners declarations page, its conditions and a lease insurance clause, all written for this page. A date is either stated, computed from a stated rule, or left empty when the document you sent does not contain the anchor.
| Date | What it is | How it was found | The clause |
|---|---|---|---|
| Feb 13, 2027 | Last day for the insurer's notice of non-renewal | Computed: 30 days before the March 15, 2027 expiration | “We will mail written notice of nonrenewal to the named insured at least thirty (30) days before the expiration date of the policy.” |
| Mar 15, 2027 | The policy expires | Stated on the declarations page | “Policy Period: From March 15, 2026 to March 15, 2027 at 12:01 a.m. standard time at the described location.” |
| No date | Renewal certificate due to the landlord (from the lease) | Not dated from the lease alone: the lease sets the period but does not state when the policy expires. The rule is returned so you can date it from the policy | “Tenant shall deliver to Landlord a certificate evidencing renewal of each required policy not later than thirty (30) days before that policy expires.” |
| No date | Sworn proof of loss due | Not dated: it runs from the insurer's request after a loss. The rule and the 60-day count are returned | “Send us a signed, sworn proof of loss containing the information we request within sixty (60) days after our request.” |
The rows are from a contract we wrote for this page, not a customer’s. Every result also carries what happens if the date is missed and the page it is on. How often Prism finds these dates is on the accuracy page.
What Prism looks for
Policy period and expiration
The effective and expiration dates on the declarations page. The expiration is the renewal date; a certificate's issue date is not.
Certificates due to a landlord or lender
The period before expiration by which a renewal certificate must be delivered under a lease or a loan, and what a lapse triggers.
Cancellation and non-renewal notice
How many days' notice the insurer must give before cancelling or not renewing, and to whom.
Proof of loss and claim notice
How soon a loss must be reported, and how long you have to deliver a sworn proof of loss after the request.
Required coverages and limits
For a lease or loan: each coverage the tenant or borrower must carry, its limit, and the additional-insured and certificate wording, quoted.
Mortgagee and additional interests
Who is named as mortgagee, additional insured or certificate holder, and the role each is given.
Deductibles and exclusions
Each deductible, and any exclusion or sub-limit the document itself states. Nothing is inferred from silence.
What it will not do
Prism returns what the document states and quotes where. It does not tell you whether the coverage is adequate, does not combine a lease with a policy to date a certificate (each is read on its own), and never infers an exclusion the policy does not state. It is not legal or insurance advice, and reminders are best-effort.
Use it from an AI agent
Prism is a remote MCP server. In Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http prism https://prism.parad1gm.com/api/prism-mcpThen ask: “Read this policy and tell me when it expires, what notice the insurer must give, and every deadline in the conditions, with the sentence each one comes from.” The agent sends the document with prism_review_contract and reads the result with prism_get_contract. Setup for Claude on the web, Cursor, VS Code and A2A agents is on the agents page.
$0.50 a contract for an agent, and the first 3 are free. On the website it is $1 per contract, or $9 a month for up to 50.
Questions
Which insurance documents does it read?
A homeowners policy declarations page with its conditions, a certificate of insurance, and the insurance clause of a lease, loan or contract. Each is read on its own.
Can it tell me when to send the certificate to my landlord?
It returns the lease rule, for example thirty days before the policy expires, and leaves the date empty when the lease does not state the expiration. Read the policy too and you have both halves; Prism does not join the two documents for you.
Does it know my policy renewed?
No. It reads the document you sent. When the renewal declarations arrive, send them and the new policy period is read on its own.
Will it infer an exclusion?
No. An exclusion, sub-limit or coinsurance requirement is reported only when the document states it. Silence is reported as silence.
Will it remind me before the policy expires?
For a paid policy, yes: an email 90, 30 and 7 days before the expiration date and before each other dated deadline. Reminders are best-effort.
Is this insurance advice?
No. It tells you what the policy or the clause says and where. For whether the cover is right, ask your broker.
